National Report Card: Suriname
Suriname borders the Atlantic Ocean on the northeastern coast of South America. Swampy coasts transition to inland hills and tropical rain forests. In Suriname most of the country is used for human activities, in its majority by urban use.
The rarity of marine fish and mammals is also high. Challenges to biodiversity include deforestation and water pollution due to mining activities.
