National Report Card: Armenia

Armenia is characterized by highland with mountains, fast flowing rivers, and fertile soil in the Aras River valley. Most of the country is used for human activities, in its majority by rainfed agriculture. Armenia has high biodiversity rarity of terrestrial land vertebrates at a global scale. When analysed as single taxons, the rarity of mammals and reptiles is also high. Challenges to biodiversity include soil pollution from toxic chemicals such as DDT; deforestation; and water pollution.
