Rwanda

Rwanda is a landlocked country in Central Africa. Its terrain is mostly grassy uplands and rugged mountains. Rwanda is home to the source of the Nile River, and it contains part of the Congo River watershed, as well as several large lakes. Most of the country is used for human activities, in its majority by rainfed agriculture. Rwanda has high biodiversity rarity of terrestrial land vertebrates at a global scale. When analysed as single taxons, the rarity of amphibians, birds and mammals is also high. Challenges to biodiversity include deforestation; overgrazing; soil erosion and exhaustion; wetland degradation; and wildlife poaching.
