Croatia has diverse landscapes, from coastline and more than 1,000 islands on the Adriatic Sea to flat plains and low mountains of the southeastern Alps. In Croatia most of the country is used for human activities, in its majority by rainfed agriculture.
The rarity of marine fish and mammals is also high. Challenges to biodiversity in Croatia include air pollution and water pollution in the Danube River Basin.
