Burkina Faso is characterized by rolling plains, a grassland plateau crossed by the Red, Black, and White Volta Rivers. The country’s north borders the Sahara Desert. In Burkina Faso most of the country is used for human activities, in its majority by rangeland.
Challenges to biodiversity include drought and desertification; urban development; soil degradation; and deforestation.
