National Report Card: Paraguay

Paraguay is a landlocked country in South America, covered by marshy and grassy plains and the Gran Chaco Forest. Most of the country is used for human activities, in its majority by rangeland. Paraguay has high biodiversity rarity of terrestrial land vertebrates at a global scale. When analysed as single taxons, the rarity of amphibians, mammals and reptiles is also high. Challenges to biodiversity include deforestation; water pollution; toxins in rivers; and loss of wetlands.
