Montenegro borders the Adriatic Sea in Southeastern Europe. Its coastal plain rises sharply to mountains and plateaus. In Montenegro most of the country is used for human activities, in its majority by rainfed agriculture. The rarity of marine fish and mammals is also high. Challenges to biodiversity include coastal water pollution and air pollution.
