Slovakia is a landlocked country in Central Europe, with mountainous and rugged terrain through much of the country, and lowlands in the south. In Slovakia most of the country is used for human activities, in its majority by rainfed agriculture. Challenges to biodiversity include air pollution and acid rain; land erosion due by agricultural and mining; and water pollution.
