Latvia borders the Baltic Sea in Eastern Europe, and most of its terrain is composed of fertile, low-lying plains. In Latvia most of the country is used for human activities, in its majority by rainfed agriculture. The rarity of marine fish and mammals is also high. Challenges to biodiversity include land, air, and water pollution; and water resource management.
