National Report Card: Lithuania
Lithuania borders the Baltic Sea in eastern Europe. The country’s terrain is fertile lowland with several small lakes. Hills in the highlands were created from ancient glacial deposits. In Lithuania most of the country is used for human activities, in its majority by rainfed agriculture.
The rarity of marine fish and mammals is also high. Challenges to biodiversity include water pollution; air pollution; deforestation; chemicals waste; and soil degradation and erosion.
