National Report Card: Canada
Canada’s coastlines border the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic Oceans. The land terrain is mostly plains, with mountains in the west. Canada has more freshwater than any other country, and it is home to more than 2 million lakes. In Canada most of the country is used for human activities, in its majority by rainfed agriculture.
The rarity of marine fish and mammals is also high. Challenges to biodiversity in Canada include air pollution and acid rain; ocean pollution due to agricultural, industrial, mining, and forestry activities.
