The Green Prize for Sustainable Literature – co-sponsored by the Santa Monica Public Library and City of Santa Monica’s Office of Sustainability and the Environment – “was established to encourage and commend authors, illustrators, and publishers who produce quality books that make significant contributions to, support the ideas of, and broaden public awareness of sustainability,” officials said.
E.O. Wilson, a biologist, conservationist and leading advocate for the environment, is the winner of 2015 Green Prize Pioneer Award, which honors a writer who “has paved the way for discourse on sustainable issues,” library officials said.
Wilson is known as “the father of sociobiology” and “the father of biodiversity.” His more than two dozen books include the 2011 Green Prize-winner Anthill.
