Valyssa Flores

Date:Aug 25, 2013

Valyssa Flores is a 12-year-old 7th grader in Tucson, Arizona, born and raised in Barrio Hollywood. She is a member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and lives with her grandparents, sister, and brother in the house her grandmother grew up in. Valyssa became the National Park Service Biodiversity Youth Ambassador for Saguaro National Park in 2010 and has since attended BioBlitz events in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado and Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve in New Orleans. What excites Valyssa about the natural world is the undiscovered biodiversity right in front of our eyes. “Bacteria, for example, is something considered harmful by most people but we’re learning more everyday about how it actually helps our bodies stay healthy.”
